About Rose Flower

Rose Flower is completely plastic-free and packaged in fully home compostable paper refill pouches that are designed to disappear into the same soil in which the plant was grown. They use a biodegradable plant-based liner that is air-tight and preserves the flower quality.

Rose stopped selling flower in 2018 soon after it became possible to sell cannabis for recreational use in California. Part of the reason they paused was because of how much single-use plastic was used for the cultivation and sale of flower. Landfills are abundant with mountains of plastic grow pots that were used once and discarded, heavy contractor bags for transport, ostrich bags for bulk buys, turkey bags for trimmed pounds, mylars and plastic lids on jars for eighths—by the time flower makes it to retailers, it’s often already been contained by four or five different single use plastic packages.

There’s an opportunity to make a difference in our industry. Rose found a solution for the reintroduction of Rose Flower with their plastic-free packaging. On top of their care for the environment, they created a pass-through economic model, where their partners can clear $1000 per pound for their beautiful flower and earn a livable income. The extinction of craft cultivators is real; this is not an abstract concept, it's already happening. As such, Rose's farmers set their prices and all proceeds, minus distribution fees, go directly to them. The point is not to make money, but to have a tiny lifeline for friends and family facing extinction.
